I was hungry and somewhat disoriented as I walked into the overlit lobby of the Los Angeles

airport Hilton.

It had taken me a while to find a parking spot many floors underground and the roof rack

on my car had made worrying sounds all the way down.

Now I was standing in a sprawling hotel lobby taken over by new ageers milling around,

chatting and forming a long line to get their day pass bracelets.

Loud pan flute music was being piped into the room by unseen speakers, sculpted faces

in high-end yoga gear jostled against flowing colorful robes, dreadlocks, semi-precious

stone medallions, long white beards, tattoos of sacred geometry.

An old black lady slowly pushed a walker past me, her t-shirt was emblazoned with a wanted

poster of an alien gray.

A faint smell of incense wafted from the crowded back corridors just beyond sight of the

lobby.

I could make out several large rooms lined with purple draping and vendor booths.

Instead of heading in, I made my way to the cafe attached to the entrance and gone

line.

Ahead of me a middle-aged woman was speaking to a shorter bald man she had struck up a conversation

with.

I've been going to less of these things lately, you know, exploring outside.
