Good morning and welcome to the Increase Your Impact Podcast. I'm Justin Sua, episode 2170. Yesterday, I was

plugging in a camera, plug in a camera into my laptop. And I kept getting that dreaded message not

compatible. And because it was incompatible or not compatible, whatever you that it just wasn't working and as it wasn't

working frustration was mounting for me i was getting more and more frustrated and the reason was

it was these two software systems were not compatible and when there's no compatibility that means

there's no connection and where there's no connection. And when there's

no connection, it doesn't work and I can't get the job done. And this morning, as I was out for my

walk, which I love, by the way, I love walks. I am team. Go for a walk. I love it. Anyway, as I was

walking today, I started to think about that experience and leadership is very

similar.

Compatibility and the two components of compatibility that influence leadership, there are many,

but two in particular is what you say as a leader and what you do as a leader.

If those two are not compatible, connection with those you lead will begin to break down.

You will not be trusted.

They will not want to follow you.

You can't say we are a family when you treat them terribly because you're not going to treat your family terribly,

I hope. You can't preach punctuality when you're starting meetings late or practices are starting late or you show up late. You can't declare communication is important when you don't

communicate with the coaching staff or the players, when you expect

players and other people to read your mind. And one thing that I've seen with great leaders is

that they align their words with their actions. There's compatibility there. They model the values that they expect from

their team. And so my invitation is to take a look at what you're saying as a leader and what

you're doing as a leader. Because if they are not compatible, something needs to change.
