2008. As a coach, have you ever had a player who just gets it? You can push them,

you can challenge them, you can throw adversity their way. They just keep going. They're just like

bulldogs. No excuses, no hesitations. You tell them the jump.

They don't ask how high. They just do it. They just find a way to figure it out. And then you contrast

that with another type of player who's just as talented. And in some cases, they're even more

talented than that first player. But for some reason, they just struggle.

They're a little more inconsistent.

Some days are locked in.

Other days they're not.

Some days, it looks like they're stuck.

Other days, they're going full bore.

They're not weak.

They're not soft.

But they don't seem to thrive under the same conditions that

the first player thrives under. And sometimes we can attribute it to personality. There are a lot of

different things we can attribute it to. But today I want to look at a very specific thing that it may,

it might be. And there's a concept in psychology called

differential susceptibility which essentially states that some players some people are

different and will perform differently in different environments some are very adaptable and they can perform in any environment while others

are highly sensitive to their surroundings. Some athletes are like dandelions. We're going to call

them dandelions. They'll grow anywhere. No matter the coaching style, the culture, the adversity,
