2037. I was thinking about, I was thinking about giving and receiving feedback and was reminded of an

experience that I had that really impacted what I think good leadership looks like, an element of good leadership.

And this is, the element is being able to receive critical feedback.

One day, we'll call him Coach Johnson.

One day Coach Johnson comes up to me and he says, Justin, in two weeks, I'm going to take you out to lunch.

And when we go out to lunch, I want you to tell me directly to my face some things that you

think I need to get better at. Now, I've known Coach Johnson for a very long time. I have seen

him in good moments. I've seen him in emotionally volatile moments. I've seen him in highs. I've seen him in lows. I've seen him in good moments. I've seen him in emotionally volatile moments.

I've seen him in highs.

I've seen him in lows.

I've seen him interact with other coaches.

I've seen them interact with players.

Now, this is a high level elite coach who is in a very stressful job.

And I thought for two weeks, okay, thought about it.

And I really wanted to give him some good feedback. Two weeks pass, we'd go to lunch and he sits there and he says, okay, hit me with it.

And I gave him the most clear, concrete feedback I had ever given a coach at the professional level.

Now, the reason I felt comfortable doing this was number one, he asked for it.

Number two is we have cultivated a very strong relationship between us over the years.

But what I loved is as he listened intently and he asked follow-up questions,

he was very humble. He nodded his head. He asked questions for clarification. And when it was all

over, he looked at me and he said, thank you so much. Now the great thing was as the year progressed he referred back
