Hello and welcome back to the Year of Polygamy podcast. I'm your host, Lindsay, and

tonight we are going to be talking to an old friend of mine, Maroni Jessup. You might remember

Maronai Jessup. He's been on the podcast before.

He's a Mormon fundamentalist man who used to be a Mormon polygamist. He's currently not in a plural

situation, but he is still a Mormon fundamentalist. He comes from the famed line of Mormon fundamentalists

with the surname Jessup. And he also is biracial. So because of his unique

upbringing and his connections to Mormon fundamentalism, I think Moronai is a really important

voice in the Mormon fundamentalist community. He is one of the folks who advocates for

social justice issues amongst the people that he works around. And Marona has become a

good friend of mine. He's always a helpful ally. I mentioned earlier that I am working for the

under the banner of heaven television series coming out in April on April 28th. And we had to do a lot of

work around Mormon fundamentalism for the show.

And Moronai was very helpful in that regard.

And today I brought Maronai on because I really want to discuss this new emerging phenomenon

that is happening in the Mormon community. And when I say

Mormon, I'm using that as the umbrella term, the larger Mormon diaspora. Remember, when we're

talking about Mormonism, we're talking about what historian Steve Shields calls over 487 extant

expressions groups and sex of Mormonism. There are a lot of breakoff groups from the

original church that Joseph Smith had restored, including the LDS, the LDS mainstream church,
