Hello everyone and welcome back to the podcast. Today's episode is episode 178. As I've been hinting at,

we're getting close to the end of the Clayshaw trial in the Garrison series. There's only a handful of episodes that I want to do to complete

this series. I want to get on to more exciting things. In fact, a lot of the controversy that's

come up lately, especially with the JFK Records Act, has reignited my interest in delving right

in to the issues of CIA involvement in the assassination,

or at least potential CIA involvement in the assassination.

Oh, I know. It's really not that simple. It's not like the whole agency was involved, right?

But there is ample evidence that things were covered up. And I think what we want to know

is just exactly what was their involvement. Who? Was it a subset? Did it go all the way to the top?

Was Richard Helms involved? There are even books today that would point the finger at Alan Dulles.

Proposterous?

I don't know if it's preposterous, but like everything we do on this show, we have to analyze the evidence.

So that's what we're going to do when we get to that part of the podcast. And that's really only a

handful of episodes away. But today, we're going to do one of those things that's still left on

the list. It's a classic. The story today is that of Charles I. Speasel, an accountant who appeared out of nowhere and testified on behalf of the Garrison prosecution team.

He was a bombshell witness that, on the surface, appeared to be highly credible.

And just as fast as the courtroom went silent as he told the story of a party that he attended

with Clay Shaw and David Ferry, a party where it was discussed that the president should

be killed, a party where Clay Shaw himself and David Ferry debated how someone might escape.

Just as all of this brought silence to the courtroom, giggles would soon replace the silence as
