I'm How did I not see this coming?

Hello and welcome back to another episode of the Year of Plygamy Podcast.

I'm your host, Lindsay.

And today we're doing something a little unusual.

We're talking about something that's a story that's unfolding in real time.

And it sort of makes me uncomfortable to do something like this because the story has some potentially tragic elements.

And I don't want to be very tabloid about it. But I actually think it's important for a few reasons. First of all, this is a history podcast. I like to go with

documentation and not journalistic stuff. However, this story is so relevant to this podcast because

it involves Mormon fundamentalism.

Now, a lot of current Mormon fundamentalists who practice polygamy sort of don't want to

associate with fundamentalists of this type, but I use the term pretty loosely, but I use it to

mean Mormons who are trying to return to the restoration in some ways, to sort of return to what

they see as the fundamentals of Mormonism. And there, as you know from this podcast, there are all

kinds of ways that that plays out and is illustrated. But this one is making the news because of the

story. And we're going to talk about the Chad Daybell case.

Chad Daybell is a Mormon man who has made the news. And we're going to get into his story right now.

But you can look them up on the news as we're recording this. It's January 9th, 2020. The story is still

unfolding. So we don't know that much about it. But I wanted to talk about his story because we're going to also be talking about a few other movements like this that are currently unfolding.

I've talked a little bit on this podcast about the Mormon Prepper movement.

I've done some stuff with the Salt Lake Tribune about it.

It's something we need to be paying attention to.
