Summary

It's deeply embarrassing for a queer podcast to go 3+ years without featuring the founder of an animal rescue, but that all ends TODAY! Natalie Garcia lost her dog Maggie Mae in an unthinkable accident, but the tragedy inspired her to create MaeDay Rescue. Eleven years later, MaeDay is one of the most popular rescues in Los Angeles - in fact, it's where Nicole got Dobby! Eventually we manage to pull ourselves away from talking about dogs long enough to dig into Natalie's coming out story, which begins at the tender age of fourteen. Natalie discusses being part of her high school's "popular straight girls group," and how coming out set her off on a different path from those friends. She also shares the VERY dramatic story of reconnecting with her high school girlfriend years later, and the time she and her date found out they were actually related. All this, plus auditory cameos from *several* pets!

0:00.0	Hey, everybody. This is Lauren, and I just wanted to hop on really quick because, as you probably noticed, beginning last week, the podcast started having some ads. In fact, I am willing to bet you just heard a couple. And we wanted to just be really transparent about that. Basically, we were offered an opportunity kind of out of the blue to switch platforms to a new podcast hosting platform that was going to insert these pre-recorded ads in order for us to generate some revenue.
0:35.1	Because as you know, we do the podcast out of the love of our hearts, and we do
0:39.6	love doing it. But we are starting out on some ventures that are going to cost money. We are in the
0:45.0	final stages of bringing on an assistant and a professional engineer. Also, transcripts are something
0:52.3	we've been talking about forever. Turns out they cost a lot more per episode than we were prepared for.
0:59.0	So that's another thing we'd like to do that cost money.
1:02.0	So the bottom line is, you know, we were given this opportunity to bring in a little income through these little pre-recorded ads,

1:12.6	it was a good move to take it. We do hope you understand. Also, it's worth noting different ads play
1:19.8	in different regions, and we can't hear all of them. We can only hear the ones in our own region.
