Summary

We’re in the dog days of summer in Salt Lake City. Thomas shares a modern mindfulness parable on a broken air conditioner and working with discomfort. He guides listeners in becoming experts at diagnosing the suffering in their own body-mind. In the end, it is never one’s “own” body-mind. Any suffering we alleviate in “ourselves” is an alleviation of suffering for all beings everywhere in all worlds.

up to 80 degrees. This is where the very first moment of panic started to set in.

So think mindfulness practice right now as I tell this story. You can track your teacher's

1:19.3

mindfulness practice as I tell this story. So I feel panic in my body, and I think, uh-oh, RAC doesn't seem to be working.

The first thought I have, we are signed up for a cool homes program where there are rolling blackouts to save electricity, or so I thought.

1:39.8

I call the electric company after a couple of phone calls and transfers and being on hold.

1:47.0

They say, actually, you were unenrolled from that program when you moved into your new home.

1:52.9

So it wasn't a rolling blackout.

1:55.5

And the panic kind of increases in my body.

1:58.9

And then I start Googling like, what are the common problems that come up

2:03.6

with AC units in a home. And you know, you have anything from like a really dirty filter to leaking

2:13.7

tubes and refrigerant to a compressor. That's the big fan that blows outside that is

maybe obstructed by debris or growth. So I'm just troubleshooting the best I can. Panicking,

2:29.3

mind you, but not totally off my mindfulness game yet.
