Hello everyone and welcome to the Stephen King cast, one man's musings on the works of Stephen King.

Each week I'll review one of Stephen King's works in the chronological order of publication.

Today we'll discuss the 1984 movie adaptation of Stephen King's short story, Children of the Corn, contained within the book, Night Shift.

So I just want to put this particular movie in a little bit of context, because by the time it

comes out in 1984, it comes out in the year that also marks Stephen King's 10th year anniversary

of writing, or at least of being a published writer, and this would be the eighth Stephen King film adaptation.

So, I mean, any way you look at it, eight adaptations in a 10-year span, I mean, that's incredible.

And each of the films, think about it, each one is considered a classic, even if there's a debate over the quality of each of these films.

You know, I mean, I wouldn't say that Children of the Corn

ranks up there in terms of quality with The Shining, but it's still a recognizably branded name.

I mean, just look at the list. I mean, we have Carrie, Salem's Lot, The Shining, Klieb show, Kujo, the Dead Zone,

Christine, and by the end of the year, I mean, yeah, that Children of the Corn will be released,

but so will fire starter. So by the end of his 10th year as a published writer, nine of his

books slash stories will have been adapted.

And that is a huge feat, and it's a testament to his abilities.

And then by the end of the 80s, another eight movies are going to bear the name Stephen

King, not including the stories he contributed to television shows like Tales from the Dark

Side or the Twilight Zone.

So basically, by the time Children of the Corn came out, Stephen King was a bankable commodity

in the eyes of studio executives and a brand that audiences couldn't get enough of.

Children of the Corn, you know, like I said, it wasn't quite on the same level as The Shining.

It's still an enjoyable movie and popular enough to spawn seven sequels and a remake.
