Hello everyone, and thank you once again for listening to the saga of World War II,

a Cassus Belly project.

Sorry I was gone for so long.

Like I said, things got a little busy, but I'm trying to get things moving again.

I also had to get a new computer, so I lost a lot of my files and had to record a new intro,

which you'll hear in a moment.

My timing wasn't terrible,

though, I suppose, since this episode begins what is basically part two of the show where America

joins the war. I also think I'm going to change the format of the show. Instead of trying to keep up

with approximately 25-minute episodes every two weeks, I'm going to shoot for longer episodes

that are released less frequently.

This allows me to write at my own pace, which I think will be a little easier.

Anyway, in this episode, we cover the bombing of Pearl Harbor and the Japanese

offensives that occurred immediately thereafter.

So let's begin episode 17, Atari Mashita.

Thank you. So let's begin episode 17, Atari Mashita. I have been in a single, Atari Mashita. I have been astonished that Japan should in a single day have plunged into war against the United States and the British Empire. What kind of a people do they think we are?

Is it possible they do not realize that we shall never cease to persevere against them

until they have been taught a lesson which they and the world will never forget.

The world will never forget. As the Japanese loaded their bombs and fueled their planes, American officials continued

to decipher Japanese cables and wonder what exactly they were up to.

Late on December 6th, Eastern Standard Time, the first installments of a 14-part message began

arriving in Washington.
