Hi, I'm Renee Hunter Vasquez. Hi, I'm John Paul Vasquez. This week, we're

broadcasting live from the Herga Commune discussing the 2019 folk horror film, Midsummer. The film was

written and directed by Ari Aster, who made quite the splash with his feature directorial debut

Hereditary the year prior. While there's a fair amount of overlap in the themes of both films,

Midsummer is its own monster entirely,

drawing upon sub-genres of pagan horror and even slasher's.

The film became a box office success and was praised by critics for its story,

style, and especially the performance of Florence Pew in the role of Danny Arder.

While the film was received positively by most audiences and critics, it is admittedly

rather polarizing among horror fans. So, Mid-Summer, what were your first impressions on the film?

I actually think this might be the first movie that we saw for the first time together.

We all saw it together with our parents and the three of us.

Which got to say, not the best decision we've made.

It's not a movie to go to with your parents.

No.

Right.

That being said, we were a split group after we watched it.

A couple of us really didn't like it and a couple of us really did like it.

I liked it.
