This is Simon here as always with Brian, and joining us for episode

145 is a celebrated English pianist, singer, songwriter and broadcaster.

A few months ago he released his eighth studio album, Taller, an exquisitely

crafted collection which demonstrates his continued maturation as a musician and as a songwriter,

and he was already pretty bloody good to begin with.

In a career that now spans two decades he's performed and worked with artists such as Herbie Hancock

for L Williams, Kendrick Lamar and Lang Lang and performed work by the likes of Massive Attack, Radiohead, Elton John, Lady Gaga, Joy Division and

Pussycat Dolls to name an eclectic few. We're immensely happy to welcome the brilliant Jamie

Colum to the show.

We met with Jamie at his home in London back in June, shortly after the release of the album

and had a very pleasant morning chatting to him. He's a most agreeable chap and also a long time fan of our podcast which is always very gratifying to hear.

It is, yeah. I remember a few years ago getting a text off of my friend Mike Smith telling me Jamie

had just mentioned us on his Radio 2 show. He gave our Richeli Jones episode a plug, I seem to recall.

Oh yeah. Yeah, yeah. And Mike, who is a very fine saxophonist, incidentally, actually wrote a dissertation on Jamie at university and I know he'll be listening so hi Mike

Our guest was born in 1979 in Essex but brought up in Wiltshire

He grew up in a household of passionate music fans where the radio and records were always playing.

He would listen to his mum singing church and sit under the family piano while his elder brother Ben learned the instrument.

He took piano lessons himself as a child but didn't take to them
