Summary

Today we finish our great interview with Dr. Kelly Kapic, professor of theological studies at Covenant College in Lookout Mountain, Georgia. His book, "You're Only Human: How Your Limits Reflect God's Design and Why That's Good News" is a breath of fresh air for Christian parents who constantly struggle with their own limitations as parents. In this second part, Kelly talks about how personal limitations reflects the human need for support from others. Should we be careful about "co-dependency" and other toxic relationships? What does humility really mean from a Christian perspective? These and other things get thrown around in Dr. Ken and Kelly's discussion. This is part two of two episodes. So that leads to the other big thing, which is in recognizing our limitations, you talk about

0:40.5

that that means knowing our need for each other. At one point, I think you said, humility does not

0:49.0

simply say, I'm sorry or please forgive me. Humility also says, I don't know. Can you help me? And how should I do

0:56.8

this? The language of dependence on each other and interaction in that way. Can you say more about

1:05.0

the concern about that and how that kind of is maybe an antidote to some of this over expectation.

1:11.7

No, that's great.

1:12.4

Yeah, the chapter on humility is fun to kind of rethink how we've misunderstood it, I think,

1:16.8

because, you know, we by and large, no, we should be humble.

1:20.1

That's a positive thing.

1:21.5

But when you ask, you know, like when you ask Christians,

1:25.0

don't give them a lot of chance to think about like why should we be humble?

1:28.9

Our default is often well because we're sinners. And it is true we're sinners and the fact that

1:33.8

we're sinners should contribute to us being humble. But when you build the idea of humility on

1:39.3

the foundation of sin, it actually distorts the whole thing. So that the way you then think you can grow in

1:45.7

humility is by focusing on what a bad sinner you are. Oh, yes. Yeah. And that really screws up.

1:51.5

So one of the quickest way I think I have to get at this is to ask folks, before there was any
