So as we start this season, we are just a few days away from Orphan Sunday, which is November 13th.

Orphan Sunday is one day set aside to bring voice to the orphan across the globe and also right here in the United States.

According to Adaptskids.org, there are more than 100,000 kids in the U.S. foster care system

waiting for a family to adapt them. They will not be returning home to their parents and if they

don't get adopted, they will age out of foster care and be on their own.

Over 20,000 young adults age out every single year without being adopted, and that

is heartbreaking and it's overwhelming, but the good news is you can do something about it.

Today I'm talking with Dr. Sharon Ford. Sharon has worked in the field of child welfare for over 30 years.

In 2013, she retired from the state of Colorado as the manager for Permanency Services, Division of Child Welfare.

She oversaw the foster care and adoption programs, including recruitment and retention of foster and adoptive parents,
