Summary

Tune in to our Bests & Worsts of 2018 episodes to hear us discuss these titles and read excerpts from our favorites! Please note: We counted things that we read in 2019, regardless of publication year. We didn’t count anything that we read specifically for this podcast, so our worst books are aside from those. For that reason, we picked top 5 favorites and only 1 least favorite–we have this whole podcast to talk about bad books, so for these episodes we’re choosing to focus on the positive! Some of our “worsts” are really just “least best.” Listen to the podcast to hear more detail!

Hello and welcome to worst bestsellers, where sometimes we actually read good stuff.

0:16.8

I'm Renata.

0:17.9

And I'm Kate.

0:19.1

And this is part one of our book year in review. Hello.

0:25.4

Yeah. So every year we like to take a little break from reading all of the bad things that we read.

0:32.8

And we like to just check in and talk about things we read that actually were good. And before we get too

0:40.0

much into that, we'll just give a little recap of what our guidelines are for this because it's

0:44.5

maybe a little different from some other best of lists around the internet. Yeah.

0:51.1

First of all, we don't count stuff we read for the podcast because obviously our worst books of the year would be like stuff we read for the podcast.

1:00.5

Also, sometimes when we say best and worsts, bests and worsts because it sounds cute with our podcast name.

1:09.2

But frequently, worst is just the book we liked least, which for me, I particularly feel a lot of guilt about this every year because I'm not a librarian.

1:22.4

I don't read books for my job.

1:24.2

So if I don't like a book, I put it down.

1:26.8

So any book that I finished is a book that I

1:29.2

liked enough to finish and is not bad, but it's cute to call it bests and worst. So none of my

1:37.8

worst books, with the exception of my worst adult book, which is a book we read for our book club,

1:42.2

are books that I made myself finish and they were terrible book club, are books that I've made myself finish

1:44.6

and they were terrible. They were all books that I still genuinely enjoyed.

1:49.8

Some of mine are pretty bad. You read for your job. Also, I'm stubborn, but anyway, we'll get into

1:57.3

that. One of our other biggest things is our list is not only things that were published in 2019.

2:05.5

It's just stuff that we happen to read in 2019.

2:08.9

So there's definitely some backlist stuff in here.
