For 50 years, psychology textbooks use the tragic story of a murdered young woman to teach

students about the devastating impact of inaction by neighbors.

The magic number, 38, was chosen by the media as the number of careless onlookers who heard

the woman's demise in real time and did nothing.

But the true story of what happened that night teaches us that even when there are bystanders,

there are still plenty of helpers willing to come running when they're called to aid

a beloved friend.

He took it in high school.

I took AP psychology for, I think it was just a one semester class in high school.

They teach you that.

I mean, you go back and go, oh yeah.

And unfortunately, one of Kitty's nieces said the same thing.
