They still remember that feeling, that fear that they had.

Small town America,

1953. If this were a movie, the camera would zoom over pastel, family-sized

Chevy's rolling down idyllic streets lined with soda shops.

On the radio, you'd hear music, a romantic ballad maybe, like Vaya Kondios, a Western that was the

number one song for 31 weeks that year.

Girls would wear big poodle skirts, their ponytails pinned up high on their heads, often with a bow.

Boys would be dapper, hair slicked back with pomade, cashmere sweater, and jeans.

People like to think of the 50s as a more innocent time, a time when

things were simple.

LaCraus, Wisconsin was a place that lived up to the nostalgic stereotype back then.

Near the Minnesota border, right on the Mississippi River,

the town was thought of as a great place to raise a family.

The sleepy college town was home to the then named Lacrosse State College Eagles,

a downtown with old brick buildings and iron lamp posts, and many brand new suburbs with
