There's a lot of messages out there now that talk about just being hard all the time.

0:13.7

And let me tell you from a practical perspective, being hard all the time is not sustainable. I subscribe to a saying, it's

0:26.3

be hard when it gets hard. So you need to have a place inside of you that you can go to when life

0:35.0

gets tough. You go to that place and you get the job done but when the job's done

0:43.3

you've got to be able to relax you got to be able to love your your wife and your children and not only

0:51.0

love your wife and your children but love the other people around you that aren't your families.

0:57.2

What credit do we deserve if we only love those who love us?

1:01.8

the former collegian athletes or former professional athletes that we had in the class there that had set this super

2:06.5

high standard for themselves to just be hard or be the best or be number one

2:14.3

every single day at every evolution.

2:22.4

And throughout, you know, first phase,

2:28.5

especially, I would watch these individuals. They had set this standard for themselves that was not sustainable. So just by nature of seal training it's six months long you're going to have

2:40.6

bad days you're going to have days where you're not going to be the best even though you may

2:46.0

be in the top physical condition of everyone in the class, maybe you didn't sleep good that night

2:52.9

before. Maybe you, you know, you're dealing with a cold or some type of sickness. Maybe you're

2:58.0

dealing with an injury. And I would watch these guys when they would come out and they'd have a bad

3:04.6

day and they wouldn't finish first or, you know, they wouldn't be able to take that leadership role or just that role, that level that they had set for themselves.
