Last time we left off talking about Herodotus and his seminal work Historia.

I mentioned that in this work Herodotus gives us the very word history.

It comes from the ancient Greek and at the time it meant inquiry, which is what Herodotus gave

us. He traveled around, he asked questions, and he gives us the stories that he heard.

Today we're going to discuss another ancient Greek word which has made its way down into modern English,

although much like the word Historia,

it has changed its meaning over the intervening centuries.
