Summary

Nicolas Roche is a pro's pro. This long time Irish born, French raised, global savvy individual has a lengthy list of impressive results. Twice finishing in the top ten of the Vuelta a España, Nico is a two time Irish national champion, and represented Ireland at the UCI road world championships seven times, the Olympics once, and just recently at the inaugural UCI gravel world champs.  He's got a heck of a lot going on, so I'm pleased as punch to have carved out the time in Oklahoma at MidSouth for this chat. Clearly there's room for another couple hours of conversation, hopefully later this year. To start your day off right, try AG1 by Athletic Greens simply by visiting www.AthleticGreens.com/tedking

It is not the first time that I've said the world is our recording studio.

This conversation took place on the eve of Mid-South.

0:16.5

In particular, it was a short window that we had carved out just before the pre-race meeting,

0:21.4

which to anyone who has experienced the pre-race meeting at Mid-South knows it's much more of a

0:25.9

concert than a meeting, thanks to the legend that is Bobby Wintel.

The sun was setting, the shake-out ride with Saram was complete, the numbers were pinned on

0:35.8

bikes, the overall busyness of the event was at a

0:38.8

column for this brief half hour that we carved out. So I was psyched to pick the brain of my former

0:43.8

colleague from the world tour, Nicholas Roach. Nico is our guest today. Speaking of that

0:51.8

world is our studio anecdote, as we were roaming downtown stillwatered the two of us in search of a quiet spot to record this conversation.

0:58.9

We did happen to overtake a random van's campsite where two chairs were quietly set out.

1:05.4

So do you fine chair-owning folks who stumbled upon our conversation?

1:10.5

Thank you very much.

1:13.3

An incredibly noteworthy career, Nico was a professional road racer from 2005 all the way through

1:18.4

2021. Folks, I finished two of the four grand tours that I raced. Niko finished of the 24 grand tours he've raced.

1:30.5

Twice finishing in the top 10 general classification at the Vuelta.

1:33.7

There's also the staggering number of 43 times finishing in the top tens on Vuelta stages.

1:40.5

This Irishman is a two-time national champion.

1:43.4

A very recent retiree, like I said, 2021 from the World Tour,

1:47.3

where his schedule only now has seemingly kicked into high gear.

1:51.1

He's racing an absurdly busy gravel calendar with something like six or seven trips to North America alone from his home base in Europe.
