I'd like to talk very briefly about English colonization in the New World and the

English Civil War. I want to blow through these things because today we get to delve into the really juicy early days of Pirate Methos.

So let's skip the preamble here and just jump in. This is episode 103, the story so far, part four.

English colonization began under Queen Elizabeth. She tasked Humphrey Gilbert and Walter Raleigh with finding and establishing new world colonies in Newfoundland and Roanoke, neither of which would last. Her successor, King James I, oversaw the successful colonization

of Bermuda and Virginia, but any West Indian attempts under his reign were less successful.

His son-in-air, Charles I King of England,

had more luck in West Indian colonization.

His colonial establishments happened in rapid succession.

St. Kitts, it was called St. Christopher Island at the time,

Nevis and Barbados.
