Last time, we talked about the first leg of Francis Drake's most famous voyage.

That period took him from Plymouth in England, south to Africa, to the Canary Islands,

east across the Atlantic Ocean, to the Western coast of Brazil, down that coast further south,

until he had reached almost the tip of South America.

If everything had gone according to plan, this would have been a relatively unremarkable period of the voyage.

However, due to some of the egos on board and the clashing ideologies of some of the men,

there was nearly a mutiny, led by a man named Thomas Dowdy that

Francis Drake eventually had executed.

This left Francis Drake with three ships, the Pelican, the Elizabeth, and the Marigold.

Sailing just a few days south, Francis Drake found the fleet and what's known as the Cape of

Virgins. The Cape of Virgins was a place that was peaceful, beautiful, cold, and eerily quiet.

For the men on board, according to some of the journals, it was a solemn time, a time for reflection.
