Good morning and welcome to the Increase Your Impact Podcast. I'm Justin Sua, episode 1,990. This episode is for those of you who might find yourself in a situation where you are receiving instruction or coaching from someone who is not very tactful in the way that they give you this instruction. Maybe they yell,

0:22.3

maybe they're sarcastic, maybe it just doesn't come out the right way. But you know that the message

0:28.0

they're saying is good. It's productive. It's helpful. However, you can't get over how it's delivered.

0:36.2

Now, this message isn't for them, this message is for you.

0:40.3

I recently heard an analogy that I love that relates to this.

There's a person who said, imagine yourself somebody offering you a million dollars.

1:33.8

million. You're going to take the million in any way it's given to you. And so the same needs to hold

1:40.0

true for the messages that you receive. Take the message, not the method. However it's delivered,

1:47.3

you need to find some way to pull out the message because sometimes the person is inskilled

1:52.2

and given it to you. Sometimes they're overly emotional. Sometimes they have their biases.

1:56.9

But because we are so mad about the method, we miss the message. And so this is time to take

2:03.7

ownership rather than point the finger, use the thumbs and point them at yourself and to say,

2:08.5

okay, how can I pull out the message, even though I can't stand the method? Easier said than done.

2:17.0

It's very contextual, but there may be some of you out
