Good morning and welcome to the Increase Your Impact podcast. I'm Justin Sua, episode 1,944. And this episode

is for those of you who are experiencing a lot of adversity or pain on your journey towards

whatever goals you're pursuing. And as we think about the pain and the adversity and the tough times we go through,

it's easy to start to reconsider your path. You might be wondering if your process is going to

bear the fruits that you hope it does. You always hear the phrase, trust the process, but what if, what if you're not

quite sure if you have the right process? What if you're not quite sure that the path is actually

going to lead to success? And the reason you're kind of doubting yourself is simply because you

have been working at it for a very long time and you haven't really seen the results.

I recently reread the book, same as ever, by Morgan Housel, and he shares a wonderful story,

a scene from the movie Lawrence of Arabia that I think would be perfect to remember during a time like this.

He says this, there's a scene in the movie Lawrence of Arabia in which Lawrence puts out a

match with his fingers and doesn't flinch. Another man watching tries to do the same and yells in pain.

It hurts. What's the trick then? he asks. The trick is not minding that it hurts, Lawrence says. This is one of the most useful skills

enduring, this is one of the most useful skills enduring the pain when necessary rather than assuming

there's a hack or shortcut around it, close quote. I want to read that last line again.

This is one of the most useful life skills, enduring the pain when necessary,

rather than assuming there's a hack or a shortcut around it.

And I think that's the key.

That's one of the many keys and principles that will lead to success,

that will build resilience, reminding yourself and knowing that it's supposed to hurt.

It's supposed to be difficult. You're supposed to get punched in the face. I heard somebody once
