excerpt from Jay-Z's book, Decoded, and in this book, he's talking about Michael Jordan. And he says

this, quote, I absolutely love Michael Jordan. His career was perfectly composed, was a perfectly composed story about Will. I went to his

restaurant at his invitation to have dinner with him. It was an absolute dream conversation for me.

The thing that distinguished Jordan wasn't just his talent, but his discipline, his laser-like

commitment to excellence. That's something I always

respect. The gift that Jordan had wasn't just that he was willing to do the work, but he

loved doing it. He came into the game as a rookie of the year. He finished off the last playoff game

of his career with a shot that won the Bulls, their sixth championship.

That's the kind of consistency that you can get only by adding dead serious discipline to whatever

talent you have. What I really love about this, it reminds me of the quote by by Angela Duckworth,

who wrote the book Grit.

Effort counts twice.

It takes effort to build talent.

And then effort combined with talent leads to achievement or leads to excellence.

I love that quote at the very end of what Jay-Z says.

Adding dead serious discipline to whatever

talent you have, laser-like commitment to excellence. A lot of times people aren't willing to do that.

They want to achieve greatness. They want to achieve their goals, but they're not willing to

pay the price in order to achieve them. And Jordan loved it, as Jay Z said. He loved it.

It was woven within the fiber of his being. He never had to be pushed. He just loved to do it.

And so my question to you is, where's your commitment? Are you committed to doing the things that you say you're going to do?
