In 1519, George Hernan Cortez traveled with his army from Spain to Mexico to conquer the Aztecs.

Legend has it that once Cortez and his men arrived in Mexico, he had a shocking command before they went to battle.

Burn the ships.

Understandably, the soldiers questioned their leader's request,

and they asked, how would we be able to return home?

What would happen if we had to retreat?

And Cortez's response was simple, simple and memorable.

We will conquer or perish. With no intention of turning back, And Cortez's response was simple, simple and memorable.

Cortez and his army marched into the unknown territory against a fierce enemy and accomplished what they set out to do.

Burning the ships eliminates the option to turn back.

It closes the door on running away. Burning the ships

doesn't allow you to straddle the line on whether you're in or you're out. It forces

you to commit. Sometimes it's great to have a backup plan and in some cases

providing yourself a safety net can hinder you from going all in. Are you having a problem

committing? Then remember, burn the ships. And so my question to you is, what are the ships that

you need to burn? What are the things that you need to completely eliminate, completely burn

that will serve as a forcing function to help you go all in on the decision without looking back?
