| 0:00.0 | Good morning and welcome to the Increase Your Impact Podcast. I'm Justin Sua. This is episode |
| 0:04.8 | 1,830. Today I'm going to read to you an excerpt from a newsletter that I get called 6 at 6 from Billy |
| 0:14.4 | Oppenheimer. And this is talking about the perception, the labor perception bias. The story goes, Picasso, the famous artist, |
| 0:24.2 | was approached by a fan who asked if he could sketch something for her. Picasso agreed, |
| 0:28.8 | and just in a few seconds, he drew a simple sketch of a dove. The fan was thrilled and asked |
| 0:34.3 | how much she owed Picasso for the sketch. Picasso replied, $1 million. |
| 0:39.9 | The fan was shocked and protested that the sketch only had taken a few seconds to draw. |
| 0:44.9 | Picasso responded, no, madame, the sketch took me a lifetime, close quote. |
| 0:51.3 | Now, whether this story is true or not, it talks about a very powerful principle, |
| 0:56.1 | the labor perception bias. And a lot of times when you're really, really good at something, |
| 1:03.4 | you've poured your heart and soul in hours and hours and even years and in some cases |
| 1:09.1 | decades into a certain task. you make it look easy. |
| 1:16.4 | And it looks so easy that people on the outside might think that you're just going through |
| 1:22.4 | the motions or how could it possibly be that easy or it was natural talent and people would begin to discount |
| 1:28.8 | or completely not agree with the fact that you spoke you took many many years and many hours |
| 1:35.9 | of deliberate practice to get where you are as is the Picasso example here he was he was accused |
| 1:44.0 | of only taking one second to draw the dove. Now objectively, |
| 1:47.6 | it may have been one second, but I love his answer. It took a lifetime. It took years to be able to draw |
| 1:52.7 | a dove like that in minimal time. And so the reason I share this is because if you want that level of expertise, that level of ease, |
| 2:03.8 | almost ease as it looks, it requires a lot of practice. |
| 2:09.1 | And so something might be very difficult for you right now, a certain technique, a certain style, |
| 2:14.0 | whatever you're trying to do. |
