Many times we don't trust the level of preparation that we put forth when we get into performance.

The doubt creeps in, the uncertainty creeps in. And I want to share with you a story that I

recently learned about a director named Mike Nichols. Mike Nichols won four straight box office

hits, included two Academy Award nominations, an Oscar four best director. And then one time,

after all of these awards, he had a movie flop, which simply means he produced

a movie that was terrible. For the next seven years, he didn't make a movie. But in hindsight,

he ended up realizing that those seven years of not making movies taught him more about making movies than the

years he spent making movies. And somebody asked him, what did it teach him? And he said,

to relax. Quote, prepare the best you can. Prepare as much as you can. Prepare, prepare, prepare, prepare. Then show up and throw it all

away. Just show up and see what happens, close quote. When it comes down to performance and whatever

performance looks like for you, there is no substitute for preparation for knowing that

you put in the work to be as ready as you possibly could for this moment. But once the moment arrives,

it's important to take Mike Nichols's advice and to throw it all away, Show up and see what happens.

Because regardless of how much you prepared,

it is still not an accurate,

it doesn't guarantee that you will be successful.

It doesn't guarantee that you will win because that's life.

However, preparation will increase the odds that you'll be successful, but just know that

the person who you're competing against probably also prepared, probably also cross their

teas and dotted their eyes to be ready for this moment.
