Good morning, guys. Welcome to the Increase Your Impact Podcast. I'm Justin Stewart, episode 1787. Today we're talking about your strengths. The things that you are really good out, your character traits that help you be the best parent you can be, the best athlete you can be, the best teammate, student, teacher, whatever

0:21.6

you, whatever labels that you have for yourself. And one thing that I would like to just make you

0:29.2

aware of is that for every strength that we have, there is a shadow side that is tied to it. I was once

0:37.4

working with somebody who told me that

0:39.9

the feedback that they keep getting from people is that they are just too blunt.

0:45.3

They actually used a different word, but they were just too blunt, too open, and too in your face.

0:50.9

Now, as we started to discover this person's values, we ended up realizing that he valued

0:56.7

honesty. And what came off as being too blunt, too much of a jerk, it was actually not a, not a,

1:04.2

it wasn't a, the problem wasn't his upfrontness. I don't know what that's word, but the problem

1:10.4

was his communication,

1:11.7

because he values honesty. And the shadow side of honesty is sometimes it's too honest with

1:17.0

relationships that are not as strong that can't bear the weight of truth. Another person felt

1:21.8

that they got walked all over, but their value that they held close was their kindness.

1:31.0

Their kindness ended up turning into a weakness for some people.

1:35.5

Another person said that their confidence was wavering. And probably because, according to them, is because their humble humility is a huge value to that person.

1:41.4

And when you're really, really humble, a lot of times you put yourself down

1:45.4

and you start to doubt your own ability because you are incredibly humble, the shadow side of

1:51.3

your strength. And so there's a, if you hear the noise behind me, there's a loud car of my head

1:56.3

next to me. So as you're looking at yourself and you're starting to beat up on yourself for your

2:01.7

failures and for these character flaws that you might have, instead of looking at them as a

2:08.5

character flaw, consider them as the shadow side of your strength and then identify what can

2:15.7

you do in order to, in order to help you, to help you out with those.
