Good morning and welcome to the Increasing Impact Podcast. I'm Justin Sua, episode 1,76.

Years ago, I was working with a professional athlete. And for those of you who know me,

and you've been listening to the podcast for a while, I'm a huge fan of self-reflection questions.

I think if you want better answers, start asking yourself better questions.

And I think if you practice this every single day, these questions are going to serve as

great anchors to the things that matter most.

And so with this athlete, I started to give him a number of questions that I thought

would be beneficial to him.

And every question I suggested, he rejected every single one. And he said that they were too rigid. They distracted him

from what mattered. They just weren't true to who he was. And so finally, he made a suggestion, suggestion that I thought was

brilliant. The question that he asked himself that he ended up coming to was, what reminder do I need to

give myself today? What reminder do I need to give myself today? And he, the reason he liked that so much was because

it was fluid. It depended on the day. And also it served as a great anchor for him to keep the main thing,

the main thing. And so my question to you is, what reminders do you need to give yourself today?

It might be something basic, something like focus or relax or have fun.

You might have to remind yourself to keep the main thing, the main thing.

You might have to remind yourself to focus on what you can control.

If you're an athlete, it might be a technical

thing or a mechanical thing. Remind yourself the mechanics of your swing. Remind yourself of certain

cues that put yourself in your body in the best position to execute. If you're a leader,

it might be a task thing. Maybe you need to remind yourself to follow up with someone who you said you were

going to reach out to. Maybe you need to remind yourself to send that email that is important.
