Good morning and welcome to the Increasing Rain Pack Podcast. I'm Justin Sua, episode 1,723. I want to read to you an excerpt from a blog post that I read yesterday. It's called It's Supposed to Be Hard by Morgan Housel. And in this article, he talks about a conversation between David Letterman and Jerry Seinfeld back in 1990. And David Letterman

asked Jerry how his new sitcom was going. And Jerry said that it was going well, but there's one

frustrating problem that the NBC supplied the show with teams of comedy writers that weren't very good at producing comedy.

And David Letterman asked, wouldn't it be weirder if they were good at it?

And then Jerry said, what do you mean?

David continued, wouldn't be strange if they could all just produce rams of hilarious material day after day.

Now, Jerry Seinfeld was recalling the conversation a few years later, and he laughed, and he said,

it's supposed to be hard.

And Morgan Housel continues, of course it is.

There's no world in which the most talented comedians are

consistently good. And he goes on to say that anyone who's good at anything knows that you're not

going to consistently be good. About 1% of college basketball players make it to the NBA.

1%.

That funnel doesn't seem odd and no one would say that college basketball is broken.

No one would say it's a scam.

No one would say it's ineffective at developing great players.

It's obvious that getting to the NBA is really hard.

And you can be talented.

You can be great.

You can be wonderful at what you do and still not make it to the highest level.

The entire reason pro sports are exciting and are great is because the players do something that almost nobody else can do.

And it's important to remember that.
