Good morning and welcome to the Increase for Impact podcast. I'm Justin Sua, episode 1237. I was speaking to a major

leaguer a couple of days ago and he shared with me how his situation has drastically changed

from what he's ever been used to. Now, many major leaguers, they were one of the best, if not the best, on their little league team.

Many of them were the best on their high school team.

Many of them were the key contributors to their college team and they dominated through

the minor league ranks.

And this player, who I was speaking to, had the exact same experience.

But all that changed recently when he was told by his major league manager

that he would be coming off the bench.

For those who are not familiar with that terminology,

it means that he would be second string.

Now, I was intrigued by how he responded.

He didn't sulk.

He didn't feel sorry for himself.

He told me that although this was devastating news and hard, hard to swallow, he wasn't going to use it as an opportunity to feel sorry for himself.

He was going to use it as an opportunity to get better. He made a decision that he needed to change

the way he prepared before the games in order to be ready when his name was called upon. He wanted to

make gains in the weight room and work on his speed on the base paths. He wanted to sharpen his

defense. He wanted to do get creative and work on something different in the cage, in the

batting cages for batting practice. And he shared with me a video by Tom Brady. And he said when

Tom Brady was going through a difficult time in college, he would complain about the little

opportunities that he would get until somebody encouraged him to instead of focus
