| 0:00.0 | Welcome to the inaugural edition of underserved, the podcast for the rest of the technology industry. I'm your |
| 0:14.4 | host Andrew Jollina. I wanted to talk to you about my motivation for starting this |
| 0:19.2 | podcast. As you know, podcasts are more popular than ever. There's a ton of them, especially technology |
| 0:24.4 | podcasts. But of the ones I liked and listened to, it seemed like many of them really fell into two categories. |
| 0:30.7 | The first, I'll call startup warship worship. You know when people talk about the industry, a lot of attention is paid to product startups. They're the sexy lottery tickets that everyone likes to gossip about. |
| 0:42.0 | You heard the story about the founders who invented a widget program in their garage, |
| 0:46.0 | and they bootstrapped and scrapped their way to their first sale, |
| 0:49.0 | and they took on Angel and Venture Capital Investments and grew like wildfire, |
| 0:53.4 | they IPOed and cashed out to buy McLarens and mansions. |
| 0:56.9 | You know, I like that story as much as anyone, but I feel like I've heard it too many times. |
| 1:00.8 | I'm in the technology industry, but I really live a different life from that. I started |
| 1:04.7 | programming when I was 11 years old, entered the industry working for a big company, then consulting, |
| 1:09.9 | back to a big company, and finally owning my own consulting business. |
| 1:13.6 | And along the way, I met some interesting folks, made some good friends, |
| 1:17.2 | did some interesting things, and accumulated a bunch of stories. |
| 1:20.1 | So I wanted to share some of my stories from the technology industry that didn't have to do with startup worship, |
| 1:26.0 | as well as the stories of many of those friends that I've made along the way. |
| 1:30.0 | And I want to talk about the things that the rest of us think about and live through and kind of cover the other fringes of the technology scene. |
| 1:37.0 | So underserved is the podcast for those who are underserved by the current technology podcast content. |
| 1:44.0 | The other one that I see a lot of, |
| 1:46.5 | both YouTube videos and podcast content, |
| 1:49.2 | is gadget worship. |
