Summary

It's Day 5 of our 10 Days in Tokyo series - following the World Athletics Championships! In this special limited series of The Running Channel podcast, Sarah, Rick and Andy unpack all the action from the Championships - along with exclusive behind-the-scenes insights from the team you might miss at home!

WOW! What an incredible evening of athletics. Andy, Rick, and Sarah watched on in anticipation as three Brits lined up for the Men’s 1500m Final - but no one had predicted what was about to happen.

In Rick’s favorite event, the steeplechase, drama peaked as Cherotich soared over the final water jump, launching herself into the lead with a breathtaking finish.

And earlier in the day, the team took part in a fascinating chopstick making class... some were craftier than others - can you guess the perfectionist out of the three? Let us know in the comments!

This is day five of the running channel podcast coming to you from Tokyo, Japan, and all three of us, Andy, Sarah, and myself, were wrong.

0:17.6

Yeah, which I would like to say doesn't happen very often. However, it does happen all the time and we were so wrong. Well, we sort of wrong. I think we was, I thought anyway, Jake Whiteman might get a medal. So we're talking about the 1500. Classic, Andy, trying to clear him back. I, yeah, I'm really, come on, Andy, we were wrong. Go on, say it. Yeah, we find it hard. Yeah, there we were wrong. We were wrong. Yeah. We're still letting it all sink in. Honestly, the 1500 metre men's final yesterday was like nothing we could have ever imagined. So it was a good job the athletes were prepared for all circumstances because everything was literally thrown at them. That's what we're going to be

0:54.4

going through along with answering your questions and going through a few other updates as well.

0:58.8

So let's crack into it.

1:04.9

No, I'm not a betting man. But you did bet. I did bet. I did bet. How did your bets go, Rick?

1:29.8

Well, obviously, I thought Neil Gawley was going to come in. Yeah. He came 10th. But we're going to hear from him later. We are. He was still so pleased that he got to the final and with his season overall. Jake Whiteman, I mean, what a race. What a race. All I can picture though, Sarah, is Andy's face going,

1:30.8

He's gone too early.

1:29.2

It's gone too early, it's gone too early, it's gone too early. Yeah, you can. You can

1:34.5

relive all the comments. I was desperate for some British success. We are, we are a British team of

1:39.6

Brits and we are supporting the Brits out here as well as just following the athletics as

1:43.1

fans in general.

1:46.4

And that was the first medal for Team GB.

1:46.8

Yes.

1:51.8

So we've wait a few days for that, I would say.

1:54.3

Yeah, there's some negativity we start to build around it as well.

1:59.1

So I think there was a little bit of a probably pressure relieved within the British camp.

2:01.0

Now we are on the medal table.

2:03.8

But before we dive into kind of all of the action,

2:06.4

should we talk about the class that we went to yesterday?

2:10.9

Well, I had never thought I would make a chopstick in my life.

2:15.4

No, I'd never been thought about the process of making a chopstick.

2:16.5

No, I had neither actually. But I surprised you with this little treat yesterday where we got to go in the region where
