Welcome to episode 284 of the Vinyl Guide, the podcast where we celebrate music, vinyl records, and collectibles.

And let me just quickly share, we've had hundreds of great guests here on the show over the last several years,

members of Metallica, ACDC, craftwork, sex pistols, and tons more, and each of them have

had an amazing influence and ripple effects across the world of music. And our guest today

is right up there, having changed and advanced music tremendously in the last 40 years.

Now, I'm convinced when the story of modern music is finally written, there's going to be

two distinct books, music before Gary Newman and music after Gary Newman.

Now, Gary has had such an enormous influence on everything we hear today, inspiring not

just pop music, but rock, hip hop,

sampling, even seeding what became industrial music. Gary is one of the very first artists

who used the synthesizer as its own unique instrument. Rather than trying to make it emulate

other traditional instruments, he saw the potential for synth

music way sooner than most and built a career and legacy as a forward-thinking musical artist

and storyteller.

Now, by the way, we as a human society are hugely fortunate that not only is Gary still

making music, but his latest

album, Intruder, is amongst his best and shows Gary really in top form as a storyteller

and songwriter.
