It is incredibly important. So what the heck is a runoff election?

Under Georgia's law a Senate candidate needs to hit 50% of the vote in order to avoid a runoff.

So in the election in November neither of the state's current Republican senators, but David Perdue and Kelly Laughler.

But reached that cutoff meaning both contests will go to a runoff election on January 5th 2021.

And these two races will decide control of the Senate for the first two years of President-elect Joe Biden's first term.

But here is the key. Democrats need to win both races in Georgia in order to control the Senate.
