Summary

Andrew, Eddie and Iain return for the best golfing week of the year post the Scottish Open and the week of The Open. They discuss Rory McIlroy's thrilling win at The Renaissance Club and whether the Northern Irishman is back to somewhere near his best. Eddie also gives us a review of his swing-aid but also what happened after he missed the cut in Scotland. Andrew reveals his link with Bradley Walsh, Tony Bellew and Jordan Pickford before he and Iain rekindle their pronunciation beef over Ludvig Åberg. We actually hear from the Swedish golfer himself to give us the definitive way to say his name - safe to say Iain and Andrew don't come to a consensus. Eddie raves about the persimmon driver McIlroy tested over the weekend and all three give their early predictions ahead of the week's Open Championship at Royal Hoylake in Liverpool

It's time now for the chipping forecast, issued by Folding Pocket on behalf of Andrew Cotter, Eddie Pepperall and special guest Ian Carter.

0:36.5

Hello, welcome to the chipping forecast.

0:44.6

Welcome to the greatest week in golf, whatever they might say about the Masters or the Ryder Cup or the Dix sporting goods open.

0:45.9

This is the original and the best.

0:48.6

It's Open Championship Week and we are excited.

1:12.6

And by we, I mean, of course, our guest, Ian Carter, who's in, are you, where are you at the moment? Are you in the media centre? I'm in the media centre at Royal Liverpool Golf Club, Hoylake, and for once I do agree 100% with you, Andrew, the greatest week of the sporting year for me. Oh, and I also mean, of course, Eddie Peppel, where are you, Eddie? You're not in the media centre with Ian.

1:20.1

I'm not. I'm a long way from that. I'm in Ibiza. Or Ibiza or Ibiza. You correct me.

2:02.4

Ibiza, as they say in America, I don't know if they do. Good. Right. Well, I'm at home because I live not too far from Hoyle Lake and I was there all day yesterday, wandering around, soaking it in. Why have I got an alarm going off? What's that for? That's to remind you to do this podcast. I like to get up at four minutes past nine precisely and my alarm's just gone off. So I was there yesterday. It was nice yesterday. It was windy, Wendy Miller. And I was just soaking it all in, chatting to lots of people from the irony. A few golfers. I had a word with Martin Slumbers about tennis commentary. And Matt Fitzpatrick. I was going to walk a couple of holes with him because he was playing with his brother, Alex, but then Matt only played a couple of holes before coming in.

2:03.6

I don't know if they fell out or something. I bumped into Matt's caddy, Billy Foster, who was doing his reconnoitering of the course.

2:09.8

He was very much looking forward to seeing the new 17th hole,

2:13.4

which I think is going to be the big talking point of the week when we discuss this golf course.

2:18.6

Yeah, it is, but it's...

2:21.2

It's what?

2:22.2

It's 136 yards.

2:23.8

It's going to be into a prevailing wind, so that'll make it more interesting.

2:26.8

But I think we're making a bit too much, but it looks great.

2:30.3

Up in the green, it looks fantastic.

2:33.6

And as Podrick Harrington said, when we were there a couple of months ago,

2:38.0

and he made like seven birdies out of his 17 attempts, he said it's a very straightforward

2:42.5

hole. Have you seen it, Eddie? No. No, I haven't.

2:46.6

It's basically, so the old 15th, as it was, where Garcia lost his chance in 2014 in the bunker there, that went the other direction.
