Summary

This is the third episode to come out of a podcasting trip I made two Austin right after the East Texas Showdown. I interviewed five participants of the ETS in less than 20 hours just days after the their ride ended. It was really cool as a first time event director to get all of their feedback shortly after finishing the event.

Alicia Danze and Hannah Simmons shared first place this year on the East Texas Showdown route with a time of 2d, 1h, 21m. It was both of their first times to do a bikepacking race, but they each came in with experiences that gave them confidence. Alicia is a well rounded cyclist with bikepacking experience and as a member of Ultra Violet Racing. Hannah is the shop manager at CycleEast in Austin and the first bike tour she did was the Texas 4000 that starts in Austin, TX and ends in Anchorage, AK, she did it almost on a whim because a friend asked. This time she was sucked into the ETS by her Austin friends, Alicia included, but I don't think she needed much convincing.

0:06.3	And on today's episode, I got a chance to sit down with Alicia Dan's and Hannah Simmons in a park right next to Lady Bird Lake there in Austin, Texas.

0:24.7	podcasting extravaganza. This one in the two previous episodes were recorded in Austin on a
0:33.5	whirlwind podcasting trip. I literally interviewed five people in less than 20 hours
0:39.9	and that includes sleeping time so yeah right after I finished up chatting with
0:45.3	katie McGuire from last week's episode I ran over to another spot to meet up with
0:50.8	Alicia and Hannah and we had a nice little chat under the shade of a tree on a park bench right next to
0:57.6	Ladyburg Lake.
0:59.4	Hannah and Alicia were our winner and winner of the East Texas Showdown route.
1:06.4	They wound up riding almost the entire third day together.
1:10.4	And whenever they rolled into the finish line, neither one of them wanted to outpace the
1:16.1	other one or race the other one.
1:18.1	They decided to roll in together, sharing that first place honor.
1:22.1	And it was an honor to get an opportunity to catch up with them and hear their stories. I particularly
1:29.7	enjoyed hearing how they approached the race and how that evolved as they got closer and closer,
1:38.7	including their preparation and their planning and all of that. So I really enjoyed this one.
1:45.4	Again, these two finishers, it was their first ever bikepacking race.
1:51.9	I can't say it enough.
1:52.9	I just think that it is so rad that we had so many first timers out there.
1:57.9	I'm just, yeah, I'm really glad that we could give so many people that opportunity to come
2:02.1	out and ride their bikes for the first time in that manner. And I can't wait to do it again.
