Summary

On this show, we often hear of the over-civilized nine-to-fiver that becomes so dissatisfied with the daily grind that they give up the world of suit and ties, commutes, and water cooler chats to become a full-time adventurer.

What about those of us that find real peace and tranquility in the workplace? What if a full-time job actually led to more adventures?

Today we’re talking to Barry Kruse, someone who had the chance to be that full-time adventurer, but left it for a whitecollar career, and couldn’t be happier. Listen now to hear how his decision has not only led to an amazing life, but one filled with adventures.

I'm getting this episode up a day late.

0:27.0

And also you might hear a little echo.

0:28.7

I got a new mic after almost five years of podcasting.

0:32.5

I finally got a new microphone.

0:34.6

The $50 one that I bought when I first started is finally starting to give out.

0:38.8

But, you know, hey, that $50 mic did really well. You know, podcasting is pretty cheap to get

0:43.4

into. And I love, you know me, I love a deal. Speaking of that, I had an amazing opportunity.

0:48.4

And this is the reason why the episode's coming out late, amazing opportunity to go kayak in the Everglades, Everglades

0:56.3

National Park for three days. And I just got back from that. I thought I'd have time to make

1:01.4

the episode yesterday, but I didn't with Florida Outdoor Adventures. That's the company with Dave,

1:07.5

the owner and Bonesy, one of the guides. We had an amazing time kayaking and camping all over an area called 10,000 islands.

1:17.4

So imagine on the southern edge of Florida, kind of southwest Florida, the Everglades, by the way, is basically a river.

1:26.8

But it's a, imagine a river that's very

1:29.5

shallow and a hundred miles wide, and it flows ever so slowly through a landscape, which

1:36.8

is obviously a wetland because that water's so shallow.

1:40.7

So there's this amazing array of animals and birds and fish on alligators, as you can

1:47.3

imagine, and just different types of landscape. It sounds like just nothing but sawgrass or

1:52.2

grass, but there is so much to it. And we went and explored the edge of the Everglades where

1:59.1

it hits the Gulf of Mexico. And what it does, it creates this

2:03.5

area called 10,000 islands, which are all these mangrove islands. Imagine taking a 15,000 piece

2:09.9

puzzle and just dropping all the pieces on the floor and they're all slightly spread out and have
