He has served as co-chair of the Syria Study Group, which was formed at the direction of Congress

to examine the war in Syria and how that conflict affects U.S. interests in the region and beyond.

The group presented their final report to Congress last month in late September.

U.S. policy surrounding the war in Syria has been pretty dynamic since 2011.

Questions of whether U.S. support should be lent to opposition groups, and if so, which ones,

whether that support should include lethal aid,

and whether we should have U.S. forces in the country. These have all proven pretty difficult

decisions to make and to stick to. But as Singh argues, decisions like those are best made

within a framework that clearly understands U.S. interests and objectives and defines a policy

based on those.

Especially right now, this is a fascinating and really important conversation.
