I've always said on this show that one of the driving factors in people loving college

football and college athletics in general is because the sports overall have a more local

and pure feel than the professional leagues do.

The home bases for teams in college are places like Auburn, Eugene, Oxford, and Tuscaloosa

as opposed to the pro cities of Atlanta, Boston, New York, or Philly, all the major metropolitan

areas.

And people can connect more with players and coaches in those small towns.

Now the unprecedented changes that we've seen with NIL, the transfer portal, conference

realignment, and really the death of amateurism is progress in the eyes of some, but there's

a huge segment of the college sports fan base that is waking up and they don't recognize

what they are seeing in the landscape.

That warm, fuzzy feeling of college athletics that you grew up with has turned into an ATM

for big business, TV conglomerates, and more.
