Hello and welcome to this episode of the ESG Fitness Podcast. Today I'm going to talk to you

0:08.1

about weight gain over the festive period, which I know is an unpopular topic. And I know

0:14.2

many people within fitness industry are kind of like, do you know what? Don't worry about it.

0:18.9

You need to be focused on what you're doing the rest of

0:21.5

the year, not just what you're doing over the festive period. It's okay to chill out and relax and enjoy

0:26.9

yourself. Now, I don't fully disagree with that message, but actually the research doesn't

0:31.8

support that like at all. In fact, what the research shows, and this blows my mind, is that the vast, fast,

0:41.3

vast majority, if not actually by a lot of studies, all of the weight that people put on is

0:47.5

between November and January. So in theory, this is the most important time to make sure that you are on top of your diet,

people's weight stays pretty level for most of the year,

1:13.2

meaning that the vast majority of the reason that somebody is overweight is solely down to November, December and January.

1:22.0

And researchers have found that between February and early October, there was often no further weight gain and just generally

1:32.4

like kind of stable weight. So no weight loss, but no further weight gain, which means that

1:37.5

the reason that someone is overweight is usually just down to those two months a year, November

1:42.8

and December primarily, maybe part of

1:45.3

January. And honestly, the robust research on this kind of blew my mind. And it's one of the reasons

1:52.8

I always do a coaching intake in December, because now is when people need most support. And especially

2:00.1

if you're the kind of person who doesn't want to

2:03.6

just accept the norm and look at research like that and be like, oh gosh, well, you know, that's just what

2:08.9

happens. It's not like I could do anything about it. That's what the research says, much like all
