Heavenly Father

And thank you. Heavenly Father, I'm thankful for the many blessings that thou hast bestowed upon me.

Thankful for my mother and my father.

And I think that's how I used to start my prayers pretty religiously.

Heavenly Father,

thank you for all my blessings.

I wanted to get him covered all in one swoop.

It was an efficient way of praying every day and programming my own mind.

I didn't realize that's what I was doing at the time, Heavenly Father, because I am praying to you right now.

Although in a way that I never have before, the boy's first uttered prayer in a way, in a particular style at least, because I've learned more about myself, more about my brain, more about the neurons, the way that they work.

You know, I learned about the role that tradition plays in shaping belief systems.

It's one of the reasons why I haven't prayed to you in so long.

But here, Heavenly Father, on Father's Day, Eve, or the night of Father's Day, feeling the

pull of the Father from my own children towards my own father and all my

wonderful issues in all directions and then thinking,

oh yeah, then there's that heavenly father,

a guy that I used to pray to all the time when I was a kid.

I haven't talked to him in a long time,
