Talking today about the phenomena known as the alt-right, and we're talking about it with a man who knows all different shades and stripes of the right, like the back of his hand, and that's Paul Godfrey, who is formerly professor of humanities at Elizabethtown College.

He was also a Guggenheim recipient. He holds a Ph.D. from Yale University, and he's the author of numerous books, including conservatism in America, the strange death of Marxism, Multiculturalism,

and the Politics of Guilt, and Fascism, the Career of a Concept, we'll be linking to several of those

I would like to talk today a little bit about something called the alt-right, and you have been

called the godfather of the alt-right, which is a not necessarily super descriptive term here, so we want to

get to the bottom of that.

I want to know how you would describe the alt-right, and secondly, there have been dissenters

from mainstream, boring American conservatism for many years that thought of themselves as

an alternative right without necessarily being

what we today call the alt-right. Is there any way you can sort out the terminology?

Yeah, you know, as I mentioned you before, Tom, I was interested until, you know, I discovered
