while you're there. Today we'll be telling the

story of St Hyacinth, whose feast is celebrated on August 17th. Yatsak, as he is

known in Polish, was born around the year 1185 in Poland to a noble family.

Hyacinth received a great education, traveling to the cities of Krakow, Prague, and Bologna

to study.

He received a doctorate degree in law and divinity. His uncle, the Bishop of Krakow, invited Hyacinth on a trip to Rome, and

while there Hyacinth met St. Dominic.

St Hyacinth witnessed St. Dominic perform a miracle.

He brought someone back to life.

And he was so impressed that he joined the newly founded Dominican order.

After several years in Rome, St Hyacinth was sent back to his homeland to establish the Dominican

order there. St Hyacinth is considered to be the first Polish Dominican and established several

communities there as well as in many other European countries. Some even say he walked
