Summary

After growing up in the shadows of the Himalayas her whole life Shailee Basnet first was given the opportunity to climb Mt. Everest in 2008 through an all-women’s Nepali team.

After a successful summit, they were only just getting started. Over the next 6 years Shailee would lead the same team of 10 women to become the world’s first female group to scale the highest peak in each continent.

Since finishing the seven summits, Shaiee is focused on leading programs to help train young girl survivors of human trafficking to become trekking guides as well as speaking on her experiences in mountaineering. As a speaker, Shailee takes audiences on a virtual journey of the Himalayas sharing some hard-earned insights. She also enjoys hitting the stage as a stand-up comic and has performed at clubs in Nepal, USA and India.

I'm your host, Mason.

0:25.3

We're getting the episode up a little late this week, Tuesday instead of Monday.

0:55.6

probably one of the coolest, most accomplished, most incredible women on the planet for

1:01.0

International Women's Day doing something that was by definition international, the seven

1:05.9

summits, the highest summit on every continent. Their story of these 10 women is absolutely mind-boggling what they

1:14.0

were able to accomplish. And Shiley is such a ball of energy and good and a force to be reckoned with.

1:20.9

And so she first climbed Mount Everest in 2008, and she's going to tell us some stories. I tried to

1:26.6

talk about things that aren't

1:28.3

often talk about in her story because they've been interviewed so many times. So I really

1:33.9

encourage you to check out all the films, all the talks, all the interviews that her and her team

1:38.8

has done over the years. So I tried to approach it in a different way. But one extremely interesting thing about Shiley is what are most, you know,

1:48.0

mountain climbers, especially really, really accomplished ones going to do?

1:51.4

You know, speaking engagements and book tours.

1:53.5

Well, Shiley decided to turn that, you know, on its head a little bit and do something
