Summary

Spartan racing: Lindsay Webster's historic third world championship in four years with her Abu Dhabi win at Spartan’s first non-US world championship in over a decade, plus her husband Ryan Atkin's first men's title, and her journey leaving a full-time career to become a professional athlete.

Lindsay Webster is already a Spartan legend. She recently brought home first place from Abu Dhabi, Spartan’s first world championship outside of the US in over a decade to give her a third world championship in four years. No other Spartan athlete has ever won three times.

What made this win even sweeter was the fact that her husband, Ryan Atkin, also won the men’s championship for the first time.

Today we’re hearing from Lindsay about how she’s able to win and what it was like to leave a full-time career and pursue being a pro athlete.

Yeah, I can go to the gym. Yeah, I can cross-country ski in the winter, or I can go run, whether it's flat or in the mountains.

Like, it's all going to benefit you in an obstacle course race and one-way shape or forms.

It's a really fun sport to train for, and to adventure sports podcast. I'm your host, Mason. Sorry about the delay here. We're getting this episode up a little later than usual. I had some technical difficulties this morning. But this is an episode from my other show without compromise through athletic brewing where I work. And this is one of our pro athletes, Lindsay Webster. But I thought it'd be a cool episode because Lindsay just won the world championship of Spartan races. And if you don't know what Spartan is,

0:55.9

it's an obstacle course races that's out in the woods. I've gone to a few of them. And they have,

1:01.2

you know, versions that go in the trails. But this one was in Abu Dhabi, literally in sand dunes.

1:06.3

Just all, just the whole course was in a bunch of sand dunes running through the sand out in the

1:12.7

endless desert. It's amazing. It looked incredible. But Lindsay won the world championship. And what's

1:18.4

even crazier is her husband won the men's division. So they both won their divisions, like the

1:24.7

absolute number one, you know, top athlete in each division. And they happen to be husband and a wife from Canada. So that's a talk about a power couple. Holy cow. So we're going to talk to her about the experience, what it was like. And this is the last episode before Christmas. So if you celebrate Christmas, I hope you enjoy it. I hope you have a good time with family. I hope if you have some time off,

1:44.9

I hope you get out there and use it.

1:46.2

I know I'm going to try to get out on my paddle board or on my bike sometime this weekend

1:51.3

between all the family stuff.

1:53.3

But if you don't celebrate Christmas, you know, I hope you have a great weekend.

1:56.6

I hope you do something fun regardless.

1:58.6

And we will be talking to you on Monday.

2:12.5

I'm honored to be on here because you guys have quite the lineup of athletes and people who have been on

2:17.6

this podcast. So it's cool to, you know, have my name kind of associated alongside. Oh, what are you

2:23.5

talking? You know, that's, we only do this show every other week. So I feel like there's so many

2:29.3

people we don't get to talk to because it is only, you know, 20 something episodes a year,

2:34.6

um, whereas we have a way more athletes than that. So it's kind of hard to not be able to feature people.

2:40.3

And y'all being, you and your husband being one of them. So yeah, welcome to the show. This is

2:44.6

awesome. I can't wait to get into it. Yeah. Well, hopefully it'll be around for years to come.
