Hello and welcome to this episode of the ESG Fitness Podcast. I am going to go over today a supplement that I have been asked about a lot, which is called NMN. And it seems to be all over TikTok at the moment. I don't have TikTok, so I don't know, but it seems to be pushed a lot and I've got

0:21.8

loads of questions on it. So I thought I'd cover all of them in one go. So I'm going to go over,

0:27.2

what I'm going to go. So I'm going over what it is, how it works, what the claims are around it,

0:33.0

what the current evidence shows. And then whether you should take it or not, and then finally my

0:39.4

own personal thoughts on whether I would take it or not or whether I would be suggesting it to

0:44.8

clients. Okay, right. So what is it? NMN, which stands for nicotinamide mononucleotide, which I will not say again because it's a bit of a mouthful.

0:57.2

So I'll keep it to NMN.

1:00.3

Is a form of vitamin vitamin B3, which is a good way.

1:07.0

A good way to say that would be bitumen.

1:08.7

Anyway, vitamin B3 and people are really excited about the

1:12.3

anti-aging properties that might potentially come from the NMN supplement. Now, the proposed

1:19.1

mechanism of action is via an increase in NAD plus levels. When you take the NMN supplement, it's converted to NAD in your body. And this is an enzyme

1:32.6

that is involved in biological processes and its levels decline with age, right? So it's quite a key

1:40.6

enzyme in many of the processes that occur in every single cell within your body.

1:44.9

I am going to go into a little bit more of the science and the depth on that, on EIQ for the graduates.

1:51.4

If you're not on EIQ, you're going to miss out and you should be.

1:55.9

But on a large level, like overview, like this is what it does.

2:00.4

It helps with a lot of the processes that go on within the cell.

2:04.3

And when you have decreased levels of NAD, which tend to occur as you age,

2:09.2

these are associated with things like increased information,

2:12.4

increased oxidative stress,

2:14.9

hypertension, cognitive decline, and a reduction in your ability to clear glucose.
