If you've heard the name Tom Vilsack a lot lately, it's because he was widely speculated

on as a choice as Hillary Clinton's Vice Presidential nominee, he's the former governor of Iowa,

two-term governor of Iowa.

He's been the agriculture secretary under President Obama for the last eight years, longest serving

member of the Obama cabinet.

He also is a friend of mine.

I worked in his campaigns in Iowa and he's got an extraordinary, incredible story.

And we talked about his life and where we are today in Philadelphia during the Democratic

National Convention.

Tom Vilsack, old friend, good to see you again.

I know your personal story.

In fact, when we first met, when I came to talk to you when you were considering running

for governor and you were 20 points behind, one of the reasons that I was so eager to

see you was because I had read a lot about you and this incredible story, but a lot of

folks don't know it.

So tell me a little bit about it, your childhood.

Well, I consider myself one of the luckiest people alive.

Start out life in orphanage.
